Urban Paleo Forager: El Segundo Fish Company
posted by: Sean
After last night’s tough 5K run Nick, Holley, Ruth and I headed a few blocks over to the El Segundo Fish Company for dinner. I’ve going to be honest when I say that Ruth and I didn’t have high expectations as we’d driven past a number of times and even walked past it going to Hummus Factory and it really doesn’t look like much from the outside. However, Nick and Holley both said they had eaten there before and had enjoyed it.
We were pleasantly surprised as the atmosphere had a quaint rustic and/or country flavor, and we scored a table right next to the fireplace. ESFC has an impressive menu with many Paleo-able options along with daily and monthly specials that include much more than fish, like steak, lamb, chicken, and burgers. Be aware that they may not be very open to substituting sides on the specials so keep that in mind and check with your server before you order. Ruth enjoyed the grilled shrimp (pictured below), I had the grilled wild Ahi, Holley had the grilled tilapia, and Nick enjoyed the grilled sole and shrimp special.
They serve their fish grilled or blackened, and we only tried the grilled option as it seemed less salty than the blackened option. We all enjoyed the baked yam puree, or as we call it mashed sweet potatoes along with some type of veggie. Another good aspect of ESFC is they have a few veggie side options beside the obligatory steamed mixed veggies. They also offer asparagus and spinach as well as coleslaw and salad options. For you non-Paleo folks out there, Nick can vouch for the quality of their sandwiches as he enjoyed them often in his pre-Paleo days. Be sure to check it out sometime, and I’ll post the menu on the cork board for future reference.
