Running App

It is no secret that I am a big fan of running. Anytime I see running in a WOD, I do look forward to it. Running has been one of my strengths since high school when I started with cross country and track. I also ran at the collegiate level and had moderate success. What I like most about running is the competition. Trying to keep a steady and fast pace while trying to hold your position and pass other runners is definitely an adrenaline rush. Since college, the races I participate in are the local 5Ks and 10Ks in the South Bay. Although they may not be big name races, it is always fun to compete. When I am not signing up for races I do enjoy the causal run on the strand or sand. Even then I find myself trying to hold a nice pace and pass the other runners that are just causally enjoying their run. Little do they know that I am trying to leave them in the dust. Recently I heard of a phone app that helps with someone who likes to be competitive for runners and cyclers. The app is called Strava and it has some pretty cool features. The main feature the app has is that it acts as a gps. Whether you run or bike your course can be mapped. That way you know the accurate distance and altitude. Another feature, which I happen to love, is the explore feature. This feature acts as a pop up window for courses and trails in the surrounding area. These courses have a time attached to it. For example, say you would like to do a run from Manhattan pier to Hermosa pier. It will show a list of fastest runs by different people who have the app. Once you attempt the run your time will be attached to that specific course. The app also has a “follow” feature. Say all the members of our Endurance Running class get the app. I would be able to see all the runs that they have performed. I can see that being useful for team training. I would suggest getting this app if one would like to compete and kept it at the more personal level.
